More than 40 years ago, my parents rode these trains around Berlin, back when it was still a divided city. I recently rode them myself, in a city no longer divided.

What Goes On Behind The Wall?

A ConEd substation, most likely, one of a few fortresses of electrical distribution in Gotham. The car is owned by an employee here, who was either coming or going from the private parking lot behind the door.
We walk by these facilities without thinking about their importance to us, in part because of the impenetrable wall, decorated only with occasional facility signs and harsh security lighting. But our beloved Gotham depends on the people and machinery who dwell within, powering our lives and our loves.
